Ingredients
Scale
- For the crust:
- 1 store-bought or homemade pie crust
- For the filling:
- 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- For the crumb topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare your pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan and set it aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the apple slices, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are well coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, prepare the crumb topping by mixing the flour and sugar together. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the edges of the crust brown too quickly, cover them with foil during baking.
- Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.
