Description

Learn how to make the ultimate Dutch Apple Pie with this easy recipe! Featuring a buttery crumb topping and caramelized apple filling, it’s the perfect dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the crust:
  • 1 store-bought or homemade pie crust
  • For the filling:
  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • For the crumb topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare your pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan and set it aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the apple slices, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
  4. In a separate bowl, prepare the crumb topping by mixing the flour and sugar together. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apple filling.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the edges of the crust brown too quickly, cover them with foil during baking.
  7. Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.
