- 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Once melted, add the sliced apples to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes until the apples begin to soften.
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the apples and stir to coat evenly.
- Add the lemon juice and vanilla extract to the pan. Stir and cook for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the syrup thickens.
- Once the apples are caramelized and tender, remove from heat. Serve warm as a side dish or dessert.
