  • 12 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • Optional: sliced olives, diced onions, or jalapeños

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add warm water and mix until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Divide the dough into 8 portions and roll each into a ball. Flatten each ball into a thin disc.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Fry each dough disc for 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  4. In a separate skillet, cook ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease. Add taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. To assemble, place cooked fry bread on a plate and top with taco meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and optional toppings. Serve immediately.
