- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water
- 1–2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup salsa
- Optional: sliced olives, diced onions, or jalapeños
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add warm water and mix until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 8 portions and roll each into a ball. Flatten each ball into a thin disc.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Fry each dough disc for 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- In a separate skillet, cook ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease. Add taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- To assemble, place cooked fry bread on a plate and top with taco meat, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and optional toppings. Serve immediately.
