For the base recipe:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 2 cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat (about 350°F).
- Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying each fritter for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove fritters and drain on paper towels.
- To make the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters before serving.
