Ingredients

Scale

For the base recipe:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2 cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat (about 350°F).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying each fritter for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove fritters and drain on paper towels.
  6. To make the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
