Learn to bake Outback Steakhouse Bread with this simple recipe. Sweet, soft, and flavorful, it’s the perfect complement to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp molasses
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 ½ cups bread flour
  • 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter, for brushing
  • Cornmeal, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, honey, and molasses. Stir until dissolved, then sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add bread flour, whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal parts. Shape each part into a loaf.
  6. Place the loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and sprinkled with cornmeal.
  7. Cover the loaves and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the loaves with melted butter.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with butter.
