Ingredients
Scale
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 1 large egg
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- Additional melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it stand for about 5 minutes, or until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, softened butter, salt, warm milk, and the yeast mixture. Add the egg and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased baking dish or on a baking sheet. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Brush the warm rolls with melted butter for a soft and buttery finish.
